El Dorado 8 Year Old
El Dorado logo
El Dorado rums have been voted the world’s best rums a record eight times, more than any other rum. El Dorado rums are produced in Guyana by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). They exemplify the unique history of the culture and resources of this area known as ‘Land of many waters’ and home to the unique Demerara River. Demerara Distillers have over 300 years’ heritage of sugar and rum production and has been integral to the history of British naval rum.
El Dorado 8 Year Old Demerara Rum is golden amber in colour with a light citrus nose that slowly becomes fuller and rounder. Hints of poached pear, gingerbread, quince and dried fruits develop. The palate is a complex mix of light spices, nuts, ripe fruit, smoke and wood with notes of candied orange, allspice and macadamia nuts in the forefront. A smooth and mellow finish fades away cleanly with a citrus, nutty finish. Great depth and can be sipped or mixed into luxurious cocktails. A rum for any occasion, perfect for either mixing into luxury cocktails or sipping on the rocks.
Eldorado rums are produced strictly from local Demerara sugar cane, grown on the banks of the Demerara river and are aged in small American oak casks before being blended to perfection by the master blender. The rums are left to marry for at least three months ensuring a rich development of flavours with impressive complexity. This legendary company began in 1670 after amalgamating with local sugar cane producers under the guidance of early European explorers. Demerara Distillers Ltd has continued to impress, winning the trophy for ‘Best Spirits Producer in the Americas & Caribbean Region’ at the IWSC in both 2010 and 2011. At the Diamond estate, the standards and methods of this age-old industry have been maintained, and the original heritage stills and equipment have been preserved in working order to operate in tandem with the most up to date production technology. Demerara Distillers operate the only remaining wooden Coffey still in the world – as well as the only wooden pot stills – both of which contribute to the distinctive flavour profiles of the rums in the El Dorado stable. El Dorado offers a unique range of outstanding rums with true age statements and represents the flavours, history and culture of the country of Guyana.
- El Dorado 8 Year Old Rum was awarded the “Best Rum Aged 8 – 12 Years Old” at the 2010 Rum Masters competition and received a ‘Gold, Best in Class’ award at the 2010 & 2011 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
