After the British Navy adopted its day-to-day ration of a half pint of 160 proof rum, referred to as a ‘tot’, the naval rum connection spread, and from the 1730’s a thriving export trade developed.
Wood’s 100 is one such rum, originating from what used to be referred to as British Guyana in South The us.
It has been produced in the same way for over 150 years and acquired by Wm Grant & Sons in October 2002.
Distilled at The Diamond Distillery, Guyana. It is produced the usage of a combination of spirit made in both pot and continuous stills, from the finest sugar cane grown along the banks of the River Demerara.
It is matured for 1.5 to 3 years in oak before being blended. The sugar cane produced by this enormous life-giving river makes the sweetest sugar cane in the Caribbean.
At 57% ABV, It’s one of the crucial highest ABV dark rum available on the market – yet appreciated for its smooth, mellow taste.
It has gained a reputation amongst bar-tenders as ‘the real deal’ – an essential cocktail ingredient and respected as a top of the range, niche brand amongst the drinks cognoscenti.
Can be enjoyed straight, on ice or with a mixer such as cola or lemonade. Also added as a ‘flow’ ingredient to cocktails to give a spicy kick.
Toffee, cinnamon, cloves and pepper spice on the nose with thick caramel notes.
Muscovado sugar, soft toffee and just a hint of the spice detected on the nose. This is very smooth, belying its hefty abv.
