Every year for the Annual Diageo releases the Brora is at all times the hot bottle and for the last couple of years the rumours are at all times”could it be the last?”
Well if it’s the last they have got finished on a stunning 38 year old release aged in a combination of refill American Hogsheads and refill European oak butts, now silent since 1983 and in conjunction with Port Ellen the two most famous and sought after distilleries of the limited releases.
Nose: Savoury smoked meat, damp forest floor, old leather or suede, engine oil, candlewax, peppery oak, truffle, mushroom risotto, smoked figs.
Palate: A meaty malty mouthfilling delivery, wealthy savoury notes, old leather, smoked chutney, sooty toffee, earthy caramel, ginger spice and oily citrus.
Finish: Waxy citrus, charred chocolate, smoked meats, forest bonfire smoke, wet leather, homemade chutney and honey mustard.
One of the great all rounders of the single malts with the whole thing you search for in great whisky working in absolute best harmony with each and every element well balanced so you get wood, spice, fruit, smoke and grain all holding hands into an epic finish.
Any true whisky lover needs to check out an old Brora before it gets even rarer and more expensive and that day is coming soon???
