About Us

Formed in 1973, family-owned company Nelson Honey & Marketing (NZ) Ltd is owned and operated by Philip Cropp. Philip’s grandfather started producing honey from hives in the Nelson area as a sideline to his fruit orchard over 100 years ago. Over the past four decades the company has grown substantially when it comes to production volume, international exports and product diversification. From a one-man apiary producing a small selection of honeys in Motupiko, 50kms south of Nelson city, Nelson Honey is now a large employer in the region with operations in Motupiko, Tapawera, the Marlborough Sounds, and Hokitika on the West Coast. At the side of our sister companies Rainbow Honey Ltd and Scenicland Honey Ltd, we now have well over 5,000 hives sited all the way through pristine wilderness areas in the Top of the South and along the West Coast of New Zealand.

Here at Nelson Honey, we keep it simple and only refer to the MGO activity and it’s level is included as part of the measurement process. MGO Activity will be indicated on our products as a number.

Nelson Honey Manuka Honey

Nelson Honey’s Manuka Honey is sourced from pure, clean and unpopulated natural environments in remote parts of the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Manuka honey is collected by our honeybees from the Manuka flower. The honeybees collect and develop into the nectar of the Manuka plant into honey. Nelson Honey is a family-owned business based in sunny Nelson. Four generations of beekeepers have taken a love of bees and New Zealand to create an authentic and unique range of honey.

Research indicates that honey produced in such clean, green environments increases the therapeutic benefits of the bee products (Postmes & Van den Bogaard, 1993) and we pride ourselves on our range of natural products that are all designed to help you look and feel great thanks to the magnificent Honeybee.

Traceability & Testing

We have complete traceability from the hive to the honey jar in your kitchen pantry. Each and every batch of Manuka Honey is independently tested by 3 laboratories for Methylglyoxal (MG) levels, C4 Carbon Sugars, Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and Pollen Count. We test all our Manuka Honey to ensure that it is authentic and meets our quality standards.
