The Life Cycle of a House Moth…
The Mating Ritual
Swarms of Male Moths arrive periodically over the spring and summer months on the prowl for a pretty lady moth…They perform a little mating dance for the females that can last up to 10 minutes! (True!)
Eggs are laid
Mating with females results in the laying of hundreds of eggs ( A customer posted this photo after a search of her house resulted in the discovery of a nest behind her settee). The female moth will always try and nest in the most optimum of locations generally in nice quiet dark areas.
Larvae emerge to eat and EAT!
The eggs hatch and larvae emerge, larvae can be in this stage for up to 30 months until they reach the correct size and weight to pupate.
During this time, they can move significant distances to obtain their food.
Eventually moths emerge from Pupation
Moths emerge from the pupation stage and the cycle continues!
